what is open mic?
Every evening at Masterpiece, the camp community gathers for a beloved tradition: Open Mic. This nightly event is a time for students (and sometimes staff!) to share their creativity in a supportive, shame-free environment. From visual art and photography to original songs, dances, dramatic monologues, poems, improv skits, and even films, Open Mic celebrates the vast diversity of talent and passion among our campers. Whether it’s something crafted over months or created on a whim that day, every piece is met with encouragement and enthusiasm.
For many, Open Mic is the highlight of the day—a time to laugh, cry, and be inspired by the art and vulnerability of those around them. This is more than just a talent showcase; it’s a time for the entire camp to come together and celebrate that we are all created to create. With no competition, only community, Open Mic reflects the heart of Masterpiece Ministries: fostering a space where faith, art, and friendship intersect in the most beautiful ways.

common questions:
Is it required?
Open Mic is completely volunteer based! Students can sign up during lunch and will be able to perform later that night. We highly encourage every student to try it at least once because it is an amazing opportunity to feel seen and encouraged in your art.
Do i need to prepare at home?
No preparation is required for Open Mic! Many students choose to share art they create during camp or perform something on a whim. If you know you want to present something like a slideshow before camp, it can be helpful to prepare it ahead of time, but if you decide during camp to create one, staff members are always available to help you put it together.
